Harcourt Street investigation (2006)

SFOE is concerned about the North Reddish Schools Reorganization and the high levels of some elements found during sampling of the Harcourt Street site.

Only 2 of the boreholes had more than one set of chemical analyses reported, BH1 & BH6. These appear to be located about 120 metres apart at two corners of the Northern area where the school buildings are to be located.

Site analysis (ppm)
Hole Depth(mm) As Cr Cu Pb Ni Zn
BH1 1 21 27 66 110 31 140
BH1 4 4 14 14 22 16 80
BH1 9 1 7 8 5 8 21
BH6 1 13 16 46 89 15 110
BH6 8 2 6 6 4 8 17

Lead was removed from petrol because of health worries and the effect on children's learning.

The Harcourt Street playing field site is to be concreted over sealing any surface pollution.

But has the Council done this?

It is worrying if recent reports that this has not been carried out are correct.

If not, why not?
