CAN is a coalition of organisations in Greater Manchester who believe that the area needs radically better transport, including quality public transport, safe pedestrian and cycle routes, and a congestion charge.
Stockport Friends of the Earth supports the Clean Air Now coalition.
CAN is calling on all people and organisations with an interest in or influence upon transport across Greater Manchester to work together to...
make Greater Manchester a place where people can enjoy clean air in safe streets and access the services they need using sustainable forms of transport;
recognise that, with current projections in traffic growth and car ownership, Greater Manchester has no option but to revolutionise it's transport systems and funding regimes to support a significant shift away from private car use and towards more sustainable alternative;
grasp the historic opportunity presented by the Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) bid to improve the quality of life of the people of Greater Manchester;
develop a ground-breaking integrated public transport investment plan that delivers accessible, affordable, efficient, environmentally-friendly and health-promoting transport to all residents and visitors;
put low-impact measures such as a safe and comprehensive cycle path network, safe priority routes for all pedestrians and low-emission vehicle priority schemes at the heart of the integrated transport strategy whilst preserving greenspace and, in particular, not building new roads.
