What do we want?

  • Better Public Transport because:

    • Bus - Fares are high, service isn't good, and buses don't run often enough to be a real alternative to the car.

    • Rail - Our trains are too expensive, often overcrowded and don't run frequently enough and train stations are often hard to reach if you don't have a car.

  • Traffic Reduction because:

    • Too many of us live in areas dominated by traffic, not people. We need to cut traffic for our own health and well being and so improve the places we live, shop and visit.

    • Cars and other vehicles kill 3,500 people every year and injure a half-million

    • Busy roads are divisive, literally cutting communities in half.

    • Vehicle exhaust fumes are unhealthy, exacerbate asthma and contain carcinogens

  • Action to reduce Climate Change

Transport is the fastest growing source of climate change gases in the UK, now accounting for 26% of emissions.

    • Roads - The Government is pushing ahead with a massive road-building programme that people don't want or need.

    • Aviation - Airplanes emit carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, and aviation is the fastest growing source of these emissions.
