Complexity is chaos

Privatisation split the UK railway system into over 100 companies. The result has been chaos.

Connections no longer connect. Dozens of ticket tariffs and confusing information means that even simple tasks like finding out how much your journey will cost and when your train will depart can be very difficult.

The Government should make sure that rail companies work together better to offer —

  • Service - efficient and reliable
  • Fares - affordable and easily-understood
  • Information - accurate and up-to-date

Railway Infrastructure

Investment in capacity essential

In order to cope with increasing demand, and accommodate the modal shift from roads to rail, our government needs to invest in more

  • rail lines
  • rolling stock
  • passenger services
  • rail freight

Moving a tonne of freight one kilometre by rail produces 80% less carbon dioxide than moving it by road.

Rail passenger services produce less green house gas emissions, too, yet the Government still oversees rail ticket prices rising faster than the cost of motoring.
